350. WEAVING HISTORY IN SAN PEDRO LA LAGUNA, MAYAB'IXOQI ASSOCIATION

The highlands of our country is characterized by the warmth of its people, the stunning scenery and entrepreneurialism that many people in this region are implementing to improve their quality of life.

To increase their opportunities, many women have sought a productivity alternative in crafts, such as textiles, jewelry with mostacilla, baskets and endless valued objects in national and international markets.

San Pedro La Laguna is a tourist place that offers wonderful sceneries and quality restaurants to attract more tourism to the region and thus contribute to the development of Guatemala.

Empowering women economically will not only be contributing to the decline in violence perpetrated against them but their capabilities and entrepreneurial skills are also strengthened to enable them to develop their products with quality.

It is important that young women get involved in those activities so they may have an opportunity to work and contribute to the economy of their homes, through the exchange of experiences, methodologies and capacity building.

The women of Santiago Atitlán are noted for their entrepreneurship and creativity to make crafts, which have sought to improve the living standards of their families.

It is very important for the national economy that day by day women are integrated to the productive sector, as this brings the economic and social growth we need.

Guatemala is possessed of an enormous wealth of its human resources, which we must take advantage leading more training to all sectors; this will allow families to improve their standard of living.
